As a result, NU bearings are only capable of supporting radial forces. This bearing type is commonly used as a floating bearing. Floating bearings allow axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing in both directions. This is necessary in applications where the shaft material shrinks or expands due to temperature changes (thermal expansion).
